Drop earstuds with rhinestones

This tutorial will show you how to make your very own earrings in trendy colours with faux turquoise drop beads and luxurious rhinestones.
Last year I made a set of faux turquoise drop bead earrings, and these earrings are a sequel to that series.
The base for each pair is the same, namely a faux turquoise drop, an oval rhinestone connector and an earstud to which you can attach a rhinestone. I will show you 6 different colours, but you can easily adapt the design to your own liking. For example, use a different earhook, a different beadcap, or use contrasting colours for a fresh and completely different effect.

What do you need

• Gold coloured earstuds with room for a 5 mm rhinestone.
• Neon acrylic rhinestones, size 5 mm. One portion of this mix contains over 100 different stones, which means you have more than enough options to pick from.
• Connector setting for a 14x10 mm oval rhinestone.
• Oval rhinestones size 14x10 mm, such as this turquoise stone.
• Small beadcaps. I have opted for a filigree cap, but I think these would be very cute as well.
• Faux turquoise drop beads. One strand contains enough beads to make 8 sets of earrings in different colours.
• Headpins, size 30 mm.
• Open rings, size 4 mm.
• Glue. I have used rhinestone glue, particularly because of the applicationtip. If you use Hasulith or E6000 you might want to use a headpin to neatly apply the glue onto the earstud.
• Earnuts. To secure the back of the earstuds.

How do you proceed?
1. Make the drop pendant by placing the bead onto the headpin, finishing with a beadcap. I have cut off half a millimetre of the pin, because for me that is the ideal length to make an eyelet.

2. Place the rhinestone into the setting. It might feel a bit uncomfortable if you have not yet worked with rhinestones, so make sure you take your time. I prefer to hold down the stone at the sides while gently, one by one, pressing the little prongs down over the stone by using a set of pliers. Bear in mind, practice makes perfect!

3. Glue the rhinestone into the earstud. A small drop really is enough to do the trick – the rhinestone glue is quite liquid, which means you easily end up using too much of it!

4. Connect the separate parts with the rings.

5. Your earstuds are finished!

Neon earstuds with bows

It's everywhere you look and enhances your summer mood: I'm talking about neon of course! If a neon shirt or dress is a bit too much for your taste, you can opt for neon accessories, which are striking yet subtle. I have composed a fun tutorial in order for you to make yourself a pair of brightly coloured earrings with cute little bows. Get ready to light up the room with these earrings, because they are ready in three simple steps!

What do you need

• 2 lace edge settings, size 18 x 13 mm
• 2 cabochons, 18 x 13 mm
• 2 earstuds with a loop and room for a 5 mm rhinestone
• 2 earstud clasps (not in photograph)
• 2 small rhinestones, 5 mm
• 2 bows
• 2 open rings, 4 mm
• Glue and nose pliers

How do you proceed
Step 1
Start by bending down the upper loop of the setting in order to make it into a pendant. Repeat this action with the second setting. It is important you do this before you put in the cabochon, otherwise it will be hard to bend the loop.

Step 2
Afterwards you add a drop of glue to the surface of the setting. I have used Hasulith, but you can use a different type of glue if you wish. Place the cabochon in the setting and gently press the cabochon down. Repeat this action with the second setting and cabochon.

Now repeat the same action with the earstud and the small rhinestone. It can be tricky to apply a small drop of glue in the setting of the earstud, but you can always put a bit of glue on a piece of paper and use a small pin (a headpin for example) to gently dab on the glue. Carefully press the rhinestone into the setting of the earstud. Again, repeat the action with the other earstud and rhinestone.
Just to be on the safe side, leave the parts and allow the glue to dry to dry for fifteen minutes.

Step 3
It is time for the final step. Take the ring and fold it open by using the nose pliers. Now, it's easiest to attach the earstud on the one side while, simultaneously, adding the setting and bow on the other side. Make sure all the parts are in the right place and are facing the right direction. Now you can use the nose pliers to close the ring.

Just add the earstud clasps to the back of the earstuds and they are ready to wear! Of course, you can also create your own combination by mixing different colours or even match a neon-coloured cabochon with a pastel-coloured bow!

Aren't these cute? These flower earstuds just need a few 3 mm rhinestones to fill the petals. Because the rhinestones are really tiny, we used a headpin to apply the glue in the settings.
